Samsung Dryer Not Heating? Causes and Fixes

Quick answer: Look up any error code, check the breaker and clean the vent. Then test the thermal fuse and heating element (electric) or the igniter and gas valve coils (gas).

When a Samsung dryer runs but stays cold, the cause is usually airflow or one of a few heat parts. Work through these in order.

Safety first: unplug the dryer before opening any panel. On a gas dryer, also shut off the gas valve behind it. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company.

1. Check the display for an error code

Many Samsung dryers show a code when heating fails. Your manual explains it and points to the part to test.

2. Breaker (electric models)

A half-tripped double breaker lets the drum turn without heat. Turn the breaker fully off and back on.

3. Lint filter and vent

A clogged vent causes overheating, which blows safety parts. Clean the lint filter and the full vent run to the outside. Many Samsung dryers also have a built-in vent blockage test: a result like CLg or C80 means the vent is clogged. Check your manual for how to run it.

Also check Eco Dry. Samsung notes that Eco Dry lowers the heat to save energy, so turn it off if clothes are coming out damp.

4. Thermal fuse

A blown thermal fuse cuts heat, and on many Samsung models it stops the dryer from starting too. Test it for continuity and replace it if it reads open.

5. Heating element (electric)

Test the element for continuity. A broken coil is a common no-heat repair.

6. Thermostats

A failed thermostat can stop or weaken heat. Test each one at room temperature.

7. Igniter, flame sensor and gas valve coils (gas)

If you’re not experienced with gas appliances, have a qualified technician handle this step.

With the dryer unplugged and the gas shut off, test the igniter for continuity. If it tests fine, test the flame sensor, then the gas valve coils.
